Flower Guide
What are preserved flowers?
Preserved flowers are real flowers that have gone through a series of preservation processes.
Fresh flowers are cut at the peak of bloom and immersed in alcohol-based solutions to remove water, natural oils, and sap. They are then treated in glycerine-based preservation processes to maintain the flower's natural shape, texture, and colour without the need for water or direct sunlight. Dyes and scented oils are sometimes added to enhance the colour and fragrance of the flowers.
The classic preserved flowers that we use in our arrangements are roses and carnations as main flowers, as well as hydrangeas as filler flowers. With the preservation process, the petals keep their vibrancy and softness.
Do you only use preserved flowers for the arrangements?
We also use wood flowers and dried flowers.
Wood flowers look like real flowers but have a natural wood grain. These eco-friendly handcrafted flowers can be made from thin shavings of tapioca plant root, balsa wood, or the soft spongy root of the Aeschynomene Aspera plant (also known as Sola plant). Our favourite wood flower is the Japanese wood flower, which is hyper-realistic and extremely long lasting.
Dried flowers are blossoms that have been dehydrated to remove moisture. Most of our filler flowers are dried flowers, some of which have added dyes for variety. We use different dried flowers to create a range of shapes, colours, and textures, capturing different moods. Common dried flowers in our arrangements include Lagurus Ovatus (also known as bunny tail grass) and poppy seed pods.
How long do your arrangements last in Singapore?
Our arrangements can last 6 months or more if kept in dry environments and away from sunlight. The longest preserved flower arrangement I own has been with me for 2 years now.
Will the flowers have a scent?
Preserved flowers usually do not have the natural fragrance of fresh flowers. Some may have a mild scent from the preservation process or added fragrance.
Are your flowers safe for pets or children?
Preserved flowers are generally created using non-toxic glycerine and dyes rather than harsh chemicals. However, as materials may vary, so our arrangements are for display only and should be kept away from pets and children. While rare, some individuals or pets may have allergic reactions to dyes or scented oils. Some dried flowers may also have sharp edges or shed tiny particles.
Will the arrangement look exactly like the product photo?
Each arrangement is handmade, so slight variations in flower size, shade, and placement may occur. We will keep the overall style and colour palette as close to the product photo as possible.
Why will the colours of the flowers fade with time?
The fading of colours is natural with time. Singapore's heat and humidity can hasten this process. In our flower studio, we keep our stocks away from direct sunlight and in cool areas. Whenever possible, flowers are stored upside down to preserve their colour and structure. Of course, we do not recommend that you turn your arrangement upside down for storage.
How do I care for the flowers?
Keeping the arrangement in a dry and cool environment will help preserve its vibrancy. To help it last even longer, keep your vase arrangement in a display case with desiccant. Our packaging can help extend your arrangement's life. We do not recommend placing the flowers in bathrooms, kitchens, or near windows, since humidity, heat, and sunlight may cause fading and damage. Please do not water your arrangement.
Do preserved flowers need water?
No, preserved flowers do not need water. Please keep them dry, as water may damage the flowers and undo the preservation process.
Can I remove the flowers from the packaging? How do I clean dusty preserved flowers?
Yes, you may remove the flowers from the packaging. Removing dust from preserved flowers can be a little tricky because they become more fragile with time. Use a soft brush or a gentle air blower on a cool and low setting. Avoid wet cloths, water, and cleaning sprays.
For vase arrangements, our packaging can act as a display case and comes with a packet of desiccant. You may wish to keep your vase arrangement in the packaging to protect it better.
